GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The 21st-ranked Marian University women's tennis team suffered its first defeat of the 2013-14 season to NCAA Division III 13th-ranked DePauw University by a 9-0 score in Greencastle, Ind., on Wednesday afternoon.

The Knights had their six-dual match winning streak snapped at the hands of the Tigers to fall to 6-1 on the season.

The Tigers took all three doubles matches after dropping just six points in the three matches to take a 3-0 lead quickly. Senior Brittney Horlacher and junior Hannah Knust fell 4-8 at No. 1 doubles, while seniors Lauren Paras and Olivia Pursell fell at No. 2 doubles by a 2-8 score. Junior Sarah Potter and freshman Anna Potter fell at No. 3 doubles by an 0-8 score to give DU a 3-0 lead.

The doubles defeats were the first in dual match competition for Paras and Pursell and was just the second defeat of the year for in dual competition for the Potter sisters. Horlacher and Knust fell to 11-3 on the year and 5-2 in dual competition.

Horlacher dropped to 8-4 on the season after she suffered a 2-6, 3-6 defeat at No. 1 singles, while Knust dropped her first dual match of the year and fell to 9-2 in a 0-6, 0-6 defeat at No. 2 singles.

Sarah Potter fell at No. 3 singles by a 2-6, 2-6 score, while Paras dropped to 7-3 overall and 6-1 in dual matches in a 1-6, 5-7 defeat at No. 4 singles.

Pursell fell to 5-4 not he season in a 2-6, 1-6 defeat at No. 5 singles, while Anna Potter dropped her first dual match (6-1) and fell to 8-3 after a 6-2, 5-7, 2-6 defeat at No. 6 singles.

The No. 21 Knights will return home for the final three matches of the Crossroads League season. The league title will be decided during this stretch of matches. MU hosts Huntington University on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. The MU Tennis Courts are the primary facility, but if rain enters the area the match will be moved indoors to the UIndy Tennis Center.
