Junior Brad Mustin battled at No. 3 singles, but fell against Indiana Wesleyan.
MARION, Ind. - The Marian University men's tennis team dropped its Mid-Central College Conference season-opening match at Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, 0-9.

The Knights were held in check by a strong IWU lineup as junior Brad Mustin (Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon) and senior Stedman Carmony (Greenfield, Ind./Arlington) were the only players to avoid straight-set defeats.

Mustin dropped his match at No. 3 singles, 2-6, 6-0, 3-6, but not before winning the second set and putting the pressure on his opponent. Carmony also won the second set at No. 5 singles, but, ultimately, fell, 2-6, 6-4, 0-6.

Junior Brice Fairchild (New Castle, Ind./Tri) fell at No. 1 singles, 5-7, 2-6, while freshman Andrew Voss (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette) dropped his match at No. 2 singles, 4-6, 4-6.

Freshman Will Dixon (Jeffersonville, Ind./Our Lady of Providence) lost at No. 4 singles, 1-6, 3-6, while freshman Kyle Luckiewicz (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) fell at No. 6 singles, 1-6, 3-6.

Fairchild and Dixon dropped their match at No. 1 doubles, while Mustin and Voss went down at No. 2 doubles, 3-8. Carmony and junior Aaron Wilder (Decatur, Ind./Bellmont) fell at No. 3 doubles, 5-8.

In exhibition action, senior Jeff Graf (Sunman, Ind./East Central) won his match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.

The Knights head to Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill., on Thursday afternoon. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
