KENDALLVILLE, Ind. - The Marian University men's golf team got off to a solid start after it finished in fourth place out of 12 teams at the 2009 University of St. Francis Cougar Fall Invitational in Kendallville, Ind., on Monday and Tuesday.
The Knights shot the day's low round on Tuesday as they carded a combined 296 to leave them just two shots out of third place.
Sophomores
Sean Jones (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and freshman
Trey Pfund (Clarksville, Ind./Our Lady of Providence) each finished tied for seventh place. Both carded a 36-hole total of 148. Pfund notched a pair of 74s, while Jones finished with a 73 and a 75 to lead the Knights.
Freshman
Robbi Koors (Greensburg, Ind./Greensburg) finished in a tie for 12th place in his first collegiate tournament. Koors carded a 78 on Monday, but came in on Tuesday with an even-par 72, which was the second-lowest round of the day.
Freshman
Preston Smith (Anderson, Ind./Anderson) finished in a tie for 25th place in his first collegiate tournament. He carded a 153 (76-77).
Senior
Luke Weber (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County) rounded out the Knights lineup with a 156 (77-79) to finish tied for 31st place.
Senior
Nick Olsen (White Pigeon, Mich./White Pigeon) finished in a tie for 37th place after he notched a 157 (79-78) as an individual. Freshman
Mac Fiely (Greenville, Ohio/Greenville) carded a 158 (78-80) in his first collegiate tournament to finish tied for 41st place.
The Knights get back on the links on September 14 and 15 when they head to Meshingomesia Country Club in Marion, Ind., for the Wildcat Fall Invitational.
