RICHMOND, Ind. - The Marian University volleyball team won the 2009 Earlham College Tournament on Saturday after the Knights defeated the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) and Goshen College in Richmond, Ind.
 
In the first match, the Knights defeated the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.), 25-13, 25-10, 25-22, to proceed to the championship match against Goshen College (Ind.).
 
Freshman Ashley Francis (Avon, Ind./Avon) led the Knights in the first match with 15 kills while junior transfer Sadie Dizney (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) had 10 kills. Sophomore Brittany Miller (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) tallied a team-high 11 digs for the Knights, while sophomore Mollie Heidenreich (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) dished out 38 assists.
 
In the title match, the Knights knocked off MCC rival Goshen in four sets, 24-26, 25-21, 25-23, 25-21, to earn the title.
 
Junior Carrie Sherman (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian), Dizney, and senior Ashley Hanslits (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) each tallied 10 kills. Miller notched a game-high 23 digs while freshman Holly Wasmund (Avon, Ind./Avon) dished out 35 assists.
 
Hanslits was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player while Francis was named to the All-Tournament team for the second straight tournament.
 
The Knights will face a test on Wednesday night when they take on nationally-ranked Taylor University at the Physical Education Center. First serve is slated for 7 p.m., and LIVE STATISTICS will be available at www.muknights.com.
