CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - The Marian University men's and women's cross country team turned in a solid performance at the 2009 Wabash College Hokum Karem on Saturday.
As a team, the men finished in fourth place and nearly finished right behind DePauw University, the victors.
Seniors
Michael Foerster (Ferdinand, Ind./Forest Park) and
Kyle Murray (Morgantown, Ind./Indian Creek) earned a runner-up finish after running a time of 28:57 as a tandem. They finished just 15 seconds behind the winners from Wabash College.
Senior
Thomas Jeschke (Indianapolis, Ind./Decatur Central) and sophomore
Nick Sefton (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) earned a seventh-place finish with a time of 29:40, while junior
Michael Wieser (Guilford, Ind./East Central) and sophomore
Derek Harris (McCordsville, Ind./Scecina Memorial) earned an 18th-place finish.
Senior
Ryan Strom (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek) and junior
Dean Rothenberger (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) teamed for a 29th-place finish, while freshman
Emile Conde (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) and senior
Alan Nordholt (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) finished in 31st place.
"We easily could have gone anywhere between second and fourth," said head coach
Dave Roberts. "We needed a little more help on the third scoring pair, but we ran very well overall."
The women's team earned a fifth-place finish in the event.
Juniors
Adrienne Shepherd (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) and
Emily Miller (Eaton, Ind./Delta) teamed for an 11th-place finish with a time of 24:49. Sophomores
Laura Neuman (Rushville, Ind./Rushville) and
Marissa Gill (Slidell, La./Slidell) turned in a 24th-place finish, while freshman
Brittany Gillespie (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Lawrenceburg) and senior
Brooke Meier (Brookville, Ind./Oldenburg Academy) finished in 27th place.
Senior
Jill Kuntz (Batesville, Ind./Oldenburg Academy) and sophomore
Audra Gehlhausen (Bristow, Ind./Perry Central) finished in 30th place, while freshman
Lauren Kissel (Edgewood, Ky./Saint Henry) and
Kristen Bogue (Milton, Ind./Cambridge City Lincoln) finished in 32nd place.
The Knights head to the ONU Midwest Classic in Bourbonnais, Ill., on Friday.
