Freshman Tiffany Schendel continued to roll as she picked up her seventh win of the season.
HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Marian University women's tennis team extended its winning streak to six straight matches on Tuesday afternoon with a hard-fought 5-4 win over Huntington University in Huntington, Ind.
 
The Knights defeated the Foresters by the closest possible score, 5-4, as they improved to 7-1 on the season and 4-1 in Mid-Central College Conference play. They currently sit in second place in the MCC.
 
Freshman Paola Usina (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) continued her hot streak as she improved to 7-0 (5-0 MCC) on the season with a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-4. She also teamed with freshman Tiffany Schendel (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) at No. 1 doubles. The duo fell to 3-4 on the season and 2-3 in MCC play.
 
Schendel improved to 7-1 on the campaign and 4-1 in MCC play with a come-from-behind win at No. 3 singles. She dropped the first set, 2-6, but won the remaining two sets, 6-2, 6-2, to pick up the victory.
 
Sophomore Maria Berry (Madison, Ind./Shawe Memorial) moved to 7-2 on the season with a straight-sets victory at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-2. Berry also teamed with freshman Amy Nocton (Williamsburg, Ind./Northeastern) at No. 3 doubles, but fell, 3-8.
 
Sophomore Alyson O'Conner (Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon) also improved to 6-1 on the campaign and 4-1 in the MCC with a straight-sets win at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-0. She teamed with junior Dana Reynolds (Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon) for the lone doubles victory at No. 2, 8-5.
 
Reynolds fell in her match at No. 2 singles, 3-6, 3-6, to fall to 6-2 on the season and 3-2 in MCC play. Junior Alyssa Richard (Madison, Ind./Shawe Memorial) also fell at No. 6 singles, 2-6, 6-0, 6-10, to fall to 5-3 on the season and 2-3 in MCC play.
 
Head coach Cassie Lomison will take Usina, Reynolds, and Schendel to compete in the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships in Cedarville, Ohio on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday before heading to Hanover College on September 22.
