INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University women's tennis team rebounded from its mid-week defeat to run over the Goshen College Maple Leafs, 9-0, at the Marian University Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights opened with a sweep of the doubles action as freshmen
Paola Usina (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) and
Tiffany Schendel (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) won their match at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. Junior
Dana Reynolds (Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon) and sophomore
Alyson O'Conner (Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon) won their match at No. 2 doubles, 8-1, while sophomore
Maria Berry (Madison, Ind./Shawe Memorial) and freshman
Amy Nocton (Williamsburg, Ind./Northeastern) won at No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
Usina continued her hot streak as she closed to within one match of the No. 1 seed for the MCC Tournament with a straight sets-win, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 1 singles. She is yet to lose in MCC play.
Reynolds picked up the win at No. 2 singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, while Schendel won at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Berry had to go three sets at No. 4 singles, but pulled out a victory, 3-6, 7-5, 10-2.
O'Conner picked up the win at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0, while junior
Alyssa Richard (Madison, Ind./Shawe Memorial) won at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-1.
Sophomore
Samantha Jo Crump (Indianapolis, Ind./Scecina Memorial) teamed with freshman
Casey DeLucenay (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) in exhibition doubles with an 8-4 win, while freshmen
Hannah Ruegsegger (Greenfield, Ind./Mt. Vernon) and
Hillary Carpenter (Danville, Ind./Danville) fell in their exhibition doubles match, 2-8.
DeLucenay won her exhibition singles match, 9-7, while Crump won her match, 8-3. Ruegsegger fell in her match, 5-8, while Carpenter fell, 4-8.
The Knights close the MCC season when Bethel College comes to the Marian University Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
