SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Marian University men's golf team shot its fifth straight sub-300 round of golf on Saturday en route to the title at the Pilot Invitational in at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Ind.
 
The Knights carded a second round total of 290 after tallying a 296 on Friday afternoon to enter the clubhouse with a 10-over-par 586. They defeated Huntington (599) by 13 strokes and Ohio Dominican (604) and Madonna (604) by 18 strokes.
 
Freshman Trey Pfund (Clarksville, Ind./Our Lady of Providence) finally hit his stride as he earned medalist honors with a two-under par total of 142 (73-69). He tallied the lowest round of the day carding the second-lowest round on Friday. It is his first career tournament victory.
 
Sophomore Sean Jones (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) earned a tie for third place after he carded a three-over-par 147 (74-73), while freshman Robbi Koors (Greensburg, Ind./Greensburg) tallied a three-over-par 147 (72-75) to finish in a tie with Jones.
 
Freshman Preston Smith (Anderson, Ind./Anderson) carded an eight-over-par 150 (77-73), while senior Luke Weber (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County) carded a 157 (79-78) to finish tied for 33rd place.
 
The Knights have now won two straight tournaments to open the season. They head to the Lindenwood Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Crescent Farms Golf Course in St. Louis, Mo.
