INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University women's tennis team closed out the 2009 regular season with its second straight shutout win, 9-0, over Franklin College on Wednesday afternoon at the Marian University Tennis Courts.
 
The Knights close the regular season with an 11-2 overall record and a 6-2 record in Mid-Central College Conference play.
 
Freshman Paola Usina (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) tied the school record for single-season singles victories as she improved to 17-2 on the season with a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1. She tied the record set last season by Michele Sizemore and Alyson O'Conner. She also secured the No. 1 seed for the MCC Tournament with her victory on Tuesday. She finished the MCC season as the only unbeaten player at No. 1 singles at 8-0.
 
Junior Dana Reynolds (Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon) improved to 14-6 on the season with a straight-sets win at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 7-5.
 
Freshman Tiffany Schendel (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) moved to 12-6 on the campaign with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, while sophomore Maria Berry (Madison, Ind./Shawe Memorial) improved to 12-4 on the season with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.
 
Sophomore Alyson O'Conner (Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon) moved to 12-3 on the season with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles, while junior Alyssa Richard (Madison, Ind./Shawe Memorial) improved to 10-6 on the season with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
 
The team of Usina and Schendel improved to 7-6 on the season with an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Reynolds and O'Conner teamed at No. 2 doubles for an 8-0 win. They improved to 9-6 on the campaign.
 
Rounding out the shutout was the team of Berry and freshman Amy Nocton (Williamsburg, Ind./Northeastern), who came away with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles to improve to 7-3 on the season.
 
The Knights head to the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament on October 8-10 in Marion, Ind., before Usina heads to the ITA National Small College Championships in Mobile, Ala., on October 15-18.
