DECATUR, Ill. - Coming off a win at the Hanover Fall Invitational, the Marian University women's golf team earned a fifth-place finish at the 2009 Millikin University Fall Classic at Red Tail Run Golf Club.
The Knights carded a 653 (330-323), while winner Rend Lake notched a 627 (312-315).
Senior
Angela Gauck (Greensburg, Ind./North Decatur) earned medalist honors after carding a 153 (79-74), however, she had to win a three-way playoff to earn the title. The win was her third straight and eighth career title.
Sophomore
Kailey Jacob (Greenwood, Ind./Roncalli) finished in a tie for 24th place with senior
Kristen Welker (Kokomo, Ind./Western). Both players carded a 166 with Jacob shooting an 84-82 while Welker shot an 83-83.
Freshman
Leah Miller (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) finished tied for 31st place after she carded 168 (84-84), while junior
Lauren Nickoson (Cleves, Ohio/Taylor HS) finished tied for 48th place with a 176 (86-90).
Senior
Ashley Reed (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County) notched a 177 (92-85) to finished in a tie for 51st place with junior
Cassie Freestone (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg), who also carded a 177 (87-90).
Senior
Karli Shepherd (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) shot a 181 (96-85), while junior
Alyssa Simpson (Crawfordsville, Ind./North Putnam) shot a 188 (101-87).
The Knights "B" team heads to the Franklin College Invitational on October 4 before the "A" team heads to the Butler Fall Invitational on October 5-6.
