INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University women's golf team is taking part in the 2009 Butler University Fall Invitational and is holding its own amid some stiff NCAA Division I and II competition at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Indianapolis.
The Knights carded a first round 315 to sit in sixth place behind four Division I and one Division II school. They are just eight shots out of the lead and four shots from the NCAA D-II No. 3-ranked University of Indianapolis after 18 holes.
Senior
Angela Gauck (Greensburg, Ind./North Decatur) shot a one-under-par 71 (36-35) to carry a one-shot lead into the final round on Tuesday. It is the fourth straight tournament in which Gauck has held the lead.
Freshman
Leah Miller (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) carded a first-round total of 79 (39-40) to sit in a tie for 21st place with senior
Kristen Welker (Kokomo, Ind./Western), who also shot a 79 (40-39).
Junior
Lauren Nickoson (Cleves, Ohio/Taylor HS) carded an 86 (42-44) to sit in a tie for 68th place, while sophomore
Kailey Jacob (Greenwood, Ind./Roncalli) shot an 87 (45-42) to sit in a tie for 73rd place.
The Knights will close the tournament, which features 12 NCAA Division I programs and one NCAA Division II program, on Tuesday at Eagle Creek Golf Club. They will tee off at 8:30 a.m.
