INDIANAPOLIS - As the only NAIA institution competing among 13 NCAA Division I and II members, the Marian University women's golf team finished the 36-hole Butler University Fall Invitational in eighth place out of 14 teams at Eagle Creek Golf Club on Tuesday.

The Knights were greeted with horrific weather as the rain was unrelenting throughout the first seven holes, but senior Angela Gauck (Greensburg, Ind./North Decatur) made it through unscathed. As a matter of fact, it did not affect her one bit.

Gauck earned her fourth straight tournament medalist honor after she tied the 18-hole school record with a two-under-par 70 on Tuesday, and she shattered her own 36-hole school record of 149 with a 141 (70-71). She shot a one-under-par 71 on Monday. She started hot on Tuesday as she was three-under-par through six holes as the rain poured down, and she was able to close at one-over-par through the final 12 holes.

Sophomore Kailey Jacob (Greenwood, Ind./Roncalli) turned in an 84 for a two-day total of 171 (87-84), while freshman Leah Miller (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) carded an 86 for a 36-hole total of 165 (79-86) after a 79 on Monday.

Senior Kristen Welker (Kokomo, Ind./Western) also turned in an 86 for a two-day total of 165 (79-86), while junior Lauren Nickoson (Cleves, Ohio/Taylor HS) turned in an 89 for a 36-hole total of 175 (86-89).

Gauck was the medalist in four tournaments that the Knights played in while the team earned a victory at the Hanover Invitational, its first, and a third-place finish at the USF Invitational to open the campaign. The Knights close out the fall season, and head coach Brett Cope believes the team is prepared for a strong spring campaign.
