INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University women's tennis team will head to the 2009 Mid-Central College Conference Tournament on Thursday looking to build on its third-place regular season finish.
Each of the six student-athletes in the singles lineup earned a top five seed, while the doubles teams also earned top five seeds.
Freshman
Paola Usina (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) earned the No. 1 seed at No. 1 singles after she tied the school record for single season singles victories and went undefeated in the MCC regular season. She finished the regular season 17-2 with an 8-0 mark in MCC play. She will face eighth-seeded Renee Shetterly from the University of Saint Francis (Ind.), who she defeated 6-3, 6-4, earlier this season.
Junior
Dana Reynolds (Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon) earned the No. 4 seed at No. 2 singles after a 14-6 regular season and a 5-3 mark in MCC play. She will face Kelly Smith from Spring Arbor University, who played No. 1 during the teams' regular season matchup.
Freshman
Tiffany Schendel (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) earned the No. 3 seed at No. 3 singles after she earned a 12-7 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the MCC. She will take on Kelsey Mark from Huntington University, who she defeated in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, earlier in the season.
Sophomore
Maria Berry (Madison, Ind./Shawe Memorial) earned the No. 2 seed at No. 4 singles after a 12-4 overall record and a 6-2 record in the MCC. She will take on Sarah Cressman from Bethel College, who played at No. 3 singles during their conference match.
Sophomore
Alyson O'Conner (Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon), the 2008 MCC champion at No. 6 singles, will be the No. 3 seed at No. 5 singles after she notched a 12-3 overall record and a 7-1 mark in MCC play. She will take on Julia Horn from Bethel College, who sat out their match due to injury.
Junior
Alyssa Richard (Madison, Ind./Shawe Memorial) earned the No. 5 seed at No. 6 singles after a 10-6 overall record and a 4-4 mark in the MCC. She will take on Lauren Sunderman of Huntington University, who defeated Richard, 6-2, 0-6, 10-6, earlier this season.
The team of Usina and Schendel is the No. 5 seed at No. 1 doubles, and they will take on Lisa Massey and Eva Delk of Indiana Wesleyan. IWU defeated the MU tandem, 9-7, earlier this season.
Reynolds and O'Conner earned the No. 3 seed at No. 2 doubles after a 10-6 season that featured a 6-2 mark in the MCC. They will take on Edison and Anglin from Bethel College.
Berry and freshman
Amy Nocton (Williamsburg, Ind./Northeastern) earned the No. 4 seed at No. 3 doubles after a 7-3 record that featured a 5-3 mark in the MCC. The duo will battle Meghan Redhair and Jordan Myers from Grace College.
The Knights finished third at the 2008 MCC Tournament with O'Conner bringing home the title at No. 6 singles.
