INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University women's volleyball team earned its 20th victory of the season for the second straight year with a straight-sets win over Hanover College at the Physical Education Center on Wednesday night.
The Knights were unrelenting in the first set as they earned a dominant 25-7 victory on the strength of six kills by freshman Ashley Francis (Avon, Ind./Avon).
Senior Rachel Klene (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) led the Knights with five kills in set two as they earned a 25-18 victory to take a 2-0 lead.
It took a come-from-behind 3-0 run at the end of the set, but the Knights pulled out a 25-23 win in the third set to earn the sweep and improve to 20-6 on the campaign. Sophomore Brittany Miller (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) led the Knights in the final set with four kills.
Francis had a terrific evening as she finished with 13 kills and a .684 attack percentage as she committed zero hitting errors for the match. Miller tallied nine kills and eight digs, while senior Katy Smith (Clayton, Ind./Cascade) led the Knights in defense with 15 digs.
Freshman Holly Wasmund (Avon, Ind./Avon) tallied 32 assists for the Knights.
The 20-win season is the second straight for head coach Dan Findley and the fourth in his 12-year career.
The Knights head to the Panther Invitational on the campus of Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Friday and Saturday. The team opens with Calumet College of St. Joseph on Friday at 6 p.m., and take on Siena Heights at 8 p.m.
They will battle host Davenport at 11 a.m., on Saturday and close with Judson University at 1 p.m.
