TERRE HAUTE, Indiana - The Marian College men's track and field squad earned its first national qualifying mark at the Engineer Invitational at Rose Hulman on Saturday.
The Knights finished in eighth place with 35 total points as Monmouth (Ill.) went on to capture the team title.
Junior
Kyle Murray (Morgantown, Indiana/Indian Creek) earned the NAIA national qualifying standard for the 2009 NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Murray ran an 8:44.64 in the 3000-meter run to pick up the qualifying mark. The NAIA "B" qualifying standard is 8:50.40 which puts Murray in as a qualifier.
Junior
Michael Foerster (Ferdinand, Indiana/Forest Park) finished in sixth place in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:56.31.
Freshman
Kevin Maloney (Homer Glen, Illinois/Providence) finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.56 meters. He was also 10th in the weight throw with a toss of 12.11 meters.
Sophomore
Geno Hill (Indianapolis/Pike) finished in a tie for seventh place in the high jump with a leap of 1.81 meters.
Freshman
Dallas Crain (Richton Park, Illinois/Richton Park) picked up a fifth-place finish in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.78 seconds. He also finished seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.58 seconds. Freshman
Jonathan Dossey (Indianapolis/Roncalli) finished in ninth place in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.54 seconds.
Freshman
Nick Sefton (Indianapolis/Ben Davis) earned a ninth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:03.11. The Marian College distance medley relay also finished in fifth place with a time of 11:05.99.
The Knights head to the Taylor Invitational on Saturday in Upland, Indiana.
