LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Marian University women's volleyball team improved to 9-1 on the road this season with a straight-sets sweep of defending USCAA national champion Spalding University, 25-10, 25-21, 25-10, on Thursday night in Louisville, Ky.
The Knights are now 25-7 on the season and sit in second place in the Mid-Central College Conference with a 5-2 record.
Senior
Rachel Klene (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) led the Knights with four service aces, five kills, and three assists, while sophomore
Brittany Miller (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) finished with seven kills and a team-high nine digs.
Freshman
Ashley Francis (Avon, Ind./Avon) had another impressive match after she tallied seven kills in 12 attempts with zero errors. She also had two block assists.
Junior and reigning MCC Hitter of the Week
Sadie Dizney (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) tallied six kills and four blocks for the Knights.
Freshman and reigning MCC Setter and Player of the Week
Holly Wasmund (Avon, Ind./Avon) had 10 assists, while sophomore
Mollie Heidenreich (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) had a team-high 17 assists.
The Knights snapped Spalding's seven-match winning streak and are 13-2 in their last 15 matches. They return home on Tuesday to take on IU-East at the Physical Education Center at 7 p.m. The six seniors that are part of the program will be honored on Tuesday night.
