CANTON, Ohio - The Marian University women's basketball team closed out the 2009 Walsh University Classic with a 77-64 defeat to host Walsh University in Canton, Ohio on Saturday evening.
The Knights are 0-2 on the season, but head coach
Todd Bacon is encouraged by his team's play against NAIA preseason No. 5 Shawnee State and Walsh, which is receiving votes in the NAIA poll.
"We turned the ball over too many times this weekend," said Bacon. "We played well overall against a couple of tough teams with length. We shot the ball well and if we can cut back on the turnovers we should improve significantly."
Seniors
Kristin Houck (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) and
Theresa Fairbrother (Danville, Ind./Danville) led the Knights with 15 points each, while senior
Molly Lauck (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) finished with a game-high 10 rebounds. It was her second straight game with double-digit rebounds.
The Knights continue their road swing to open the season when they head to Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Saturday, November 14. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
