ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Marian University women's basketball team has been decimated by injury early this season as only eight Knights dressed in a 72-57 defeat at Concordia (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor, Mich.

"We played as well as was possible today," said head coach Todd Bacon. "We have been hit by injury to some key players and, overall, I thought we played hard today. We just got tired late and Concordia took advantage."

The Knights held a 33-30 lead at halftime, but Concordia outscored the Knights 42-24 in the second half to pull away for the 72-57 win.

The Knights shot 50 percent (23-for-46) for the game including a blistering 58 percent (11-for-19) in the second frame.

Senior Kristin Houck (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) led two Knights in double figures after she tallied 12 points. Freshman Whitley Emerson (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) notched her first career double-digit game after she scored 10 points on 5-for-5 shooting.

Houck, sophomore Emily Smithson (Selma, Ind./Wapahani), and senior Theresa Fairbrother (Danville, Ind./Danville) each handed out four assists for the Knights. Senior Molly Lauck (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) grabbed a team- and game-high six rebounds.

The Knights sit at 0-3 on the season and will head to the Wilmington College Tip-Off Classic in Wilmington, Ohio on Friday and Saturday.
