WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Marian University women's basketball team snapped its four-game losing skid on Saturday afternoon with a 60-50 win over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the third-place game at the Wilmington College Tip-Off Classic in Wilmington, Ohio.

Both teams opened the game slowly as the Knights had a 9-6 lead 6:48 into the first half, but an 14-2 run gave them a 23-8 lead with 6:32 left before halftime. The Fighting Engineers out-scored the Knights, 15-11, over the final 6:32 to cut the lead to 11, 34-23, heading into the locker room.

The Knights pushed the advantage to 17, 42-25, with 16:21 remaining in the game, but a 16-8 Engineer run cut the lead to seven, 48-41, with 8:11 to go. However, the Knights went on a 9-2 run to take a 14-point lead, 57-43, with 4:47 left. The Engineers got as close as 10, but that was when the horn sounded to give the Knights the 60-50 win.

The Knights knocked down 11 three-pointers with seven of their nine second-half buckets being from long range. They were out-rebounded 36-29 for the game, but had an 11-8 advantage on the offensive end as the Knights out-scored the Engineers 13-3 in second-chance points.

Senior Theresa Fairbrother (Danville, Ind./Danville) had a game-high 19 points including five three-pointers. Freshman transfer Nikki Schmidt (Avon, Ind./Avon) notched a career-high 11 points in her second career game and was named All-Tournament. She also had two assists and two steals.
