INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University women's basketball team used a stifling defense to avenge a 15-point defeat earlier in the season as they defeated Concordia University (Mich.) by a 66-38 margin at the Physical Education Center on Wednesday afternoon.

Not only did head coach Todd Bacon's Knights use a stifling defense to win, but they also used a balanced offense as 11 players scored with just one in double figures.

The Knights opened the game with a 7-0 lead as they held the Cardinals scoreless over the first 4:25 of the game. The Cardinals did not hit double figures until the 7:52 mark and they were able to cut the lead back to four, 14-10. The Knights then embarked on a 10-0 run over the next 3:56 to take a 14-point lead, 24-10, with 3:56 remaining in the half. MU maintained its lead over the final four minutes and went into the locker room with a 30-17 lead at halftime.

The Cardinals cut the lead back to nine, 31-22, to open the second half and stayed within 11, 39-28, with 12:33 to go. However, the Knights went on a 16-0 run and held Concordia for just over five minutes to open a 27-point lead, 55-28, with 7:32 remaining in the game.

The Cardinals got as close as 23 with 1:54 remaining, but the Knights closed out the 66-38 victory with a 5-0 run over the final 1:54 to improve to 10-6 on the season and exact the revenge Coach Bacon had wanted since late November.

Senior Molly Lauck (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) was the only Knight in double figures as she tallied 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore Rachel Kenney (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) added nine points and a team-high eight boards, while senior Theresa Fairbrother (Danville, Ind./Danville) added nine points. Senior Megan Egenolf (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) dished out a team-high four assists in the win.

The Knights get back into conference play when Taylor University comes to the Physical Education Center on Tuesday, January 5 for an MCC showdown. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. and will air LIVE at www.muknights.com. LIVE STATISTICS will also be provided at www.muknights.com.
