SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Marian University men's basketball team had four players notch double figures as the Knights fell in overtime, 75-66, to host Wittenberg University in the Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic in Springfield, Ohio on Wednesday night. The Knights fell to 7-6 on the season.
 
The two teams went back-and-forth over the first 5:10 with Wittenberg able to take a 12-11 lead with 14:50 to go in the first half. The Knights went on an 8-0 run to take a 19-12 lead.
 
A 10-2 Wittenberg run gave the hosts the advantage at 22-21 with 6:45 to go in the frame. The teams traded buckets again before Wittenberg was able to push the lead to four at 39-35 at halftime.
 
The teams played close throughout the first 20 minutes, but Wittenberg held an 11-4 advantage in points off the bench. WU also held a slim 12-8 advantage in paint points, and out-rebounded the Knights, 18-12, in the first frame.
 
The Knights came out of the locker room and tied the score, 43-43, with 16:28 to go. A three-pointer by junior Jordan Tucker gave the Knights a three-point lead, but Wittenberg knotted the score, 46-46, with 15:28 remaining.
 
Over the next five minutes the two teams traded the lead four times before a Wittenberg free throw tied the score at 53-53 with 10:11 to. It was the fourth time the score was tied during the second stanza.
 
The Knights went on a 6-0 run to take a 59-53 lead with 8:18 remaining and, eventually, pushed the lead to eight, 65-57, with 5:56 to go in the game. However, the Knights went 0-for-5 over the final 5:56 and Wittenberg capitalized with a 9-1 run to send the game into overtime.
 
Marian out-shot Wittenberg in the second half, but the cold snap to end regulation gave Wittenberg the opportunity it needed to send the game to the extra five minute session.
 
The cold snap to end regulation continued into overtime as the Knights went 0-for-7 from the field in the added frame. Wittenberg outscored the Knights 18-1 over the final 5:56 of regulation and the full overtime session as they went 0-for-12 over the final 10:56 of the game. Wittenberg used the 9-0 overtime run to close out the 75-66 win to earn the tournament title.
 
Junior Jordan Tucker (Kirklin, Ind./Clinton Central) led four Knights in double figures with a game-high 26 points, grabbed a team-high five rebounds, and finished 6-for-10 from three-point land.
 
Junior Anthony Furlin (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) finished with 15 points and knocked down four from three-point range, while sophomore Alex Sylvester (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) finished with 10 points including two three-pointers and a team-high five boards.
 
Freshman Matt Dickerson (Evansville, Ind./Mater Dei) finished with 12 points and four boards, while freshman Mac Fiely (Greenville, Ohio/Greenville) and junior Brandon Malone (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) each finished with four assists.
 
The Knights get back into Mid-Central College Conference play when they head to Upland, Ind., on Tuesday, January 5 to take on Taylor University. The game, which tips at 7 p.m., will air LIVE on XL950 AM (WXLW) with Brad Wochomurka calling all the action beginning at 6:50 p.m.
