GOSHEN, Ind. - The fourteenth-ranked Marian University women's basketball team rebounded quickly from a mid-week defeat as they knocked off Goshen College, 99-66, on Saturday afternoon in Goshen, Ind.
Senior
Megan Egenolf (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) tallied a game-high 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting. She led six Knights in double figures in a game that featured double-digit minutes for 12 Knights. The win improved their record to 13-7 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.
Over the first 6:41, the Knights opened a 10-point lead at 17-7 and never looked back.
They pushed the lead to 21, 32-11, after sophomore
Emily Smithson (Selma, Ind./Wapahani) knocked down a three-pointer. Goshen was able to get the lead back to 19, but the Knights went into the locker room with a 26-point lead, 53-27.
The Knights shot 62 percent (21-of-34) in the first half including 62 percent (8-of-13) from three-point range. The defense held the Maple Leafs to just 31 percent (10-of-32) from the field in the first half.
The Knights were able to maintain their lead throughout the second half as the Maple Leafs only got as close as 23. The Knights' lead was pushed as high as 36 before they finished the 33-point victory, 99-66. The Knights scored more than 90 points in a conference game for the second time this season and only the second time in a conference game since the 2005-06 season.
Senior
Theresa Fairbrother (Danville, Ind./Danville) tallied 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range, while sophomore
Rachel Kenney (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) and senior
Kristin Houck (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) each added 12 points.
Freshman
Rachel Turk (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) finished with 11 points, while senior
Molly Lauck (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) finished with 10 points and a game-high six boards. Freshman
Whitley Emerson (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) and
Smithson each had six boards, while Houck added a game-high five assists for the Knights.
