PHOTO GALLERYINDIANAPOLS - The 24th-ranked Marian University women's basketball team handled the Cougars of Spring Arbor University in a 79-48 win at the Physical Education Center on Saturday afternoon. The win takes the Knights to 14-8 on the season and 6-3 in MCC play.
Four Knights finished the game in double digits, including freshman
Natalie Robinson (Wingate, Ind./Fountain Central) who finished with a game-high 17 points. Seniors Theresa
Fairbrother (Danville, Ind./Danville) and
Megan Egenolf (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield), and sophomore
Rachel Kenney (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) all finished with 11 points for the Knights.
After a slow start by both teams, Robinson sparked the MU offense with back-to-back three pointers and the Knights took a 19-8 lead with 11:05 to play in the first half. After the 10-minute mark, the Knights would never lose the double-digit lead. Marian was able to score 21 points off of 18 Cougar turnovers in the half, and would take a 44-17 lead into halftime.
The Knights outscored the Cougars 35-31 in the second half to cruise to the 79-48 victory.
The MU defense held Spring Arbor to 29 percent (6-of-21) shooting in the first half and 33 percent (17-of-52) for the game, while the Knights controlled the boards as the grabbed 44 rebounds to the Cougars' 29.
Sophomore
Brandi Jolliff (Metamora, Ind./Franklin County) had a game-high eight boards for the Knights, and Egenolf had a game-high seven assists.
The Marian University women's basketball team will travel to Grace College Wednesday to take on the Lancers. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. and the game will air LIVE at
