HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Marian University women's basketball team dropped its regular season finale on the road to Huntington University, 67-54, on Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Knights to 17-13 overall and 8-8 in conference. The Knights are seeded fifth for next week's MCC Tournament.
Senior
Kristin Houck (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) led the Knights in scoring with 12 points. Houck became the 11th Knight to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau and the second in consecutive years. A layup with 10:14 to go in the first half gave her 1,001 career points and she finished with 1,006 points heading into the postseason.
In the first half, the Knights shot only 28 percent (9-of-32) from the field but managed to out-rebound Huntington by a, 35-14, margin. There would be four lead changes in the half and a total of eight ties. However, the largest lead of the half went to Huntington at the 2:45 mark when they led Marian by a, 26-21, count. MU was able to cut the lead to three with 28 seconds to play and went into the locker room trailing Huntington, 28-25.
The Knights struck first in the second half, knotting the game at 28, before the Foresters regained the lead and never lost it. They would bring the lead to as many as 18 on five different occasions. The Knights could only get as close as 13 over the final eight minutes, as Huntington closed out the 67-54 victory. MU improved their shooting in the second half, going 52 percent (11-of-21) from the field and, once again, dominated the boards, 35-14.
Sophomore
Rachel Kenney (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) had a game-high 11 boards for the Knights, and contributed nine points. Freshman
Amie Larkins (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) finished with nine rebounds.
The Knights will play the fourth-seeded Taylor University in the opening round of the conference tournament on Tuesday in Upland, Ind. Tip is slated for 7 p.m. The game will air LIVE at
