Senior Chelsea Young hit a two-run walk-off home run to win game two against Cedarville on Friday.

INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University softball team split a pair of games with Cedarville University on Friday at the Marian University Softball Field. The Knights dropped the first game, 3-1, before beating the Yellow Jackets, 7-5, on a walk-off homerun. MU now has a 10-2 record on the season.

In the first contest of the day, Cedarville got things started in the top of the third inning with a double. The runner was able to advance on a wild pitch before an RBI-single brought in the game's first run.

In the Knights' half of the inning, freshman Helen Rogers (Avon, Ind./Avon) hit an RBI-single to left to tie the game, 1-1.

Cedarville wrapped the game up in the top of the fifth when they scored two unearned runs on MU errors. They would go on to beat the Knights, 3-1, to snap their six-game winning streak. The loss was also the first at the Marian University Softball Field as the Knights won 14 straight games at home with a 12-0 record at the park in 2009.

Rogers went 1-for-3 for the Knights, with one RBI and senior Chelsea Young (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) finished 2-for-3.

Freshman Emily Gwaltney (Bargersville, Ind./Center Grove) suffered the loss for the Knights. She went five innings, struck out six, and allowed six hits. Junior Kristi Roth (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) went two innings and struck out one.

In the second contest, the Knights were able to get their bats going. In the bottom of the second, senior Melissa Coutz (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) hit a lead-off inside the park homerun to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. It was the first inside-the-park homerun in the history of the ballpark, which is in its second season.

MU continued the scoring in the third inning when Coutz crossed the plate again off an RBI-single by sophomore Brittany Camp (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo).

Cedarville would tie the game in the fourth on a pair of RBI-doubles and take the lead in the fifth on another RBI-double and an RBI-single. The Yellow Jackets would lead the Knights by a 4-2 count heading into the Knights' half of the fifth.

Gwaltney would start the inning just as Coutz did with her second homerun of the season. The homer cut the gap to one heading into the final two innings.

The Yellow Jackets would extend their lead in the top of the seventh to make it a 5-3 game before the Knights looked to pull off a dramatic victory.

In the bottom of the seventh, Coutz hit an RBI-double to tie the game, 5-5, and set the stage for the dramatic. Young stepped up to the plate and ended the game with one swing as she homered to right-center for the walk-off 7-5 win.

Coutz went 2-for-3 for the Knights with three RBI, Young had two RBI and finished 1-for-4, while Camp went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Senior Sandy Corum (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County) picked up the victory after throwing three innings of relief and struck out seven to improve to 5-0 on the campaign. Freshman Amy Tamer (Indianapolis, Ind./Scecina Memorial) threw four innings and struck out five for the Knights.

The Knights are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Oakland City University. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
