CRAWFORDSVILLE Ind. - The Marian University women's track and field team opened its 2010 outdoor season with a second place finish at the J. Owen Huntsman Relays at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind., on Saturday.
 
The Knights posted a team score of 165, which was good enough for a runner-up finish in a four team field.
 
Senior Lyndy Errett (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) had a strong showing in the throws with a first-place finish in the discus (34.04m) and second-place finishes in both the hammer (33.80m) and the shot put (10.99m).
 
In other field events, senior Maureen Haaker (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) placed first in the hammer with a throw of 37.60 meters, and fourth in both the long jump (3.89m) and the javelin (24.20m). The Knights also got a pair of second-place finishes from freshman Kristen Bogue (Milton, Ind./Cambridge City Lincoln) in the high jump (1.52m) and freshman Jaymee Schambers (Milton, Ind./Cambridge City Lincoln) in the long jump (4.77m).
 
MU also had second-place finishes in the 4x100-meter relay (53.35) from the relay team of sophomore Nicole Svorinic (Avon, Ind./Avon), freshman Jacquelyn Dossey (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli), junior Patrice Fernandes (Indianapolis, Ind./Loara), and Schambers; and the distance medley relay team of junior Adrienne Shepherd (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo), senior Jill Kuntz (Batesville, Ind./Oldenburg Academy), freshman Marisela Garcia (Anderson, Ind./Guerin Catholic), and sophomore Audra Gehlhausen (Bristow, Ind./Perry Central).
 
Svorinic also finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.99, while junior Emily Miller (Eaton, Ind./Delta) posted another second-place finish, this time, in the 5,000-meter run at 20.04.
 
Posting a first-place relay time for the day of 10:25.68, was the 4x800 team of Shepherd, Miller, Bogue, and freshman Amy Walker (Frankfort, Ind./Clinton Central).
 
The women's track and field team will travel to St. Joseph's College in Renesselaer, Ind., on Saturday, March 27.
