FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Marian University women's tennis team resumed its spring season on Tuesday afternoon with a 7-2 win over Indiana Tech at Swinney Park in Fort Wayne, Ind.
The Knights took a quick 2-1 lead after doubles as sophomore
Alyson O'Conner (Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon) and sophomore
Maria Berry (Madison, Ind./Shawe Memorial) earned the first victory at No. 2 doubles, 8-0. Sophomore
Samantha Jo Crump (Indianapolis, Ind./Scecina Memorial) and freshman
Amy Nocton (Williamsburg, Ind./Northeastern) also earned an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles to give MU the lead.
Freshman
Tiffany Schendel (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) picked up a straight-sets win at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3, while Berry earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. O'Conner sealed the win at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory before junior
Alyssa Richard (Madison, Ind./Shawe Memorial) added an insurance with at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Freshman
Casey DeLucenay (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) also earned the win at No. 6 singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
Schendel and junior
Dana Reynolds (Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon) fell at No. 1 doubles, 6-8, while Reynolds battled at No. 1 singles before she fell in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 5-7.
The Knights improved to 13-4 on the season and head to St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind., on Wednesday afternoon for a 3 p.m. first serve.
