INDIANAPOLIS - Tuesday afternoon's doubleheader at Marian University Baseball Field was exactly what the Knights' baseball team needed as they swept the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears by 10-0 and 12-2 margins. They snapped a six-game losing skid and won their first two games of their home season to improve to 6-9.

After tallying just 22 hits over their last five games, the Knights' offense finally got going as they pounded out a combined 23 hits in the two victories on Tuesday afternoon.

MU opened the twinbill with a 12-hit performance in a 10-0, five-inning victory. An RBI-single off the bat of freshman Brett Metcalf (Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon) highlighted a two-run first inning, while RBI-singles by sophomore Jared Mills (Cicero, Ind./Hamilton Heights) and senior Tony Goodpaster (Avon, Ind./Wabash) gave the Knights a 4-0 lead after three innings of play.

That was more than enough offense as senior Ricky Parrish (Avon, Ind./Avon) threw a complete game, four-hit shutout and used just 78 pitches to dispatch the Polar Bears. The win brought his record to 2-1 on the campaign.

The offense was not quite done as MU broke out in the fourth with five runs on seven hits. A two-run single by junior Jake Mullis (Coatesville, Ind./North Putnam) was the big hit of the inning, while Goodpaster hit another RBI-single for the Knights.

MU walked off the diamond in the fifth after Mills ripped an RBI-single to left field to score the final run and give the Knights the 10-0, mercy rule victory.

Mills finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, while junior Austin Gibson (Indianapolis, Ind./Transylvania) and Goodpaster each added two hits. Goodpaster and Mullis each added two RBI in the win.

The win snapped a six-game losing skid and a five-game home losing streak.

Game two was more of the same as the Knights exploded out of the box with five runs in the bottom of the first after ONU scored its first run of the twinbill in the top half. Sophomore Evan Schludecker (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) notched the big hit, a two-run single, to cap the inning. Mullis added an RBI-single, while junior Todd Ungru (Madison, Ind./Shawe Memorial) walked in a run and junior Cory Emmons (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) notched an RBI on a hit by pitch to stake MU a 5-1 lead after an inning.

A scoreless second was followed by two MU runs to give the Knights a 7-1 lead. Sophomore James Storms (Camby, Ind./Plainfield) ripped an RBI-double, while hot-hitting junior Bobby Willis (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County) hit an RBI-triple deep to left center field to give sophomore lefthander Neil Hackett (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) more than enough run support.

Hackett threw a six-inning complete game, scattered just six hits, and allowed just one earned run to improve to 2-1 on the season. He struck out five and walked two in the win.

A two-run fourth inning pushed the lead to 9-1 after a passed ball and an error allowed Mills and Emmons to score. ONU tallied one on an RBI-single in the top of the fifth, but MU walked off the diamond one more time in the bottom of the sixth.

Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out, and Storms earned an RBI on a walk before Willis finished off the game with a two-run double to give the Knights the 12-2 win in six innings.

Willis finished 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and three RBI, while Storms went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Schludecker had a hit and two RBI, while Gibson went 2-for-4 for the Knights.
