INDIANAPOLIS - Marian University head women's basketball coach
Todd Bacon is proud to announce his first commitment for the 2010-11 season.
Carley Buchanan, a 5-8 guard from Franklin Community High School, committed to Marian University on Wednesday and becomes the first addition to the 2009-10 Mid-Central College Conference Tournament finalists. She averaged 12.2 points and five rebounds per game as a senior and scored 973 career points while shooting 36 percent from three-point range.
"Carley has a high basketball IQ and is very fundamentally sound with the ability to play both ends of the floor at a high level," said Bacon. "She comes from a very solid high school program coached by Walt Raines at Franklin Community High School. We are excited to have her coming to Marian and she will help fill the void left by the graduation of
Megan Egenolf and
Theresa Fairbrother."
Buchanan was a two-time All-Mid-State Conference selection who was part of the 2008 sectional championship team at FCHS. She is the third-leading scorer in FCHS history and was named All-County on four occasions. She was also a two-time Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Underclass All-State selection and a two-time IBCA Top 100 Showcase pick.
She was named Hoosier Basketball Magazine All-State first team and was a two-time All-Metro West team selection.
She was named to the South team in the 22nd Annual North/South Indiana All-Star Classic at Oak Hill High School on April 8 and was selected to participate in the fifth annual Hoosiers Reunion Classic on June 4 in Knightstown, Ind.
She was also a McDonald's All-America nominee.
Buchanan becomes the first to join the program for 2010-11. The Knights finished 2009-10 with a 19-14 overall record and earned the program's first-ever berth in the MCC Tournament title game.
