HAMILTON, Ohio - The Marian University baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with the Miami University-Hamilton Harriers on Tuesday afternoon in Hamilton, Ohio. The Knights snapped a three-game losing skid by winning game one, 6-4, in come-from-behind fashion, but they fell in game two by a 5-1 count.

The Knights opened game one with a run in the top of the third inning as they utilized the long ball throughout game one. Sophomore Jared Mills hit a solo homer to score the game's first run and give MU a 1-0 lead.

The Harriers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with a run of their own, but the Knights answered in the top of the fifth as senior Tony Goodpaster hit a solo shot to give MU a 2-1 lead. The Harriers were able to snatch the lead back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and make the score 4-2 with one more in the bottom of the sixth.

However, the Knights posted a one-out comeback in the top of the seventh. Goodpaster hit a two-run single to score the inning's first two runs, and junior Todd Ungru gave the Knights the lead with a two-run triple to stake MU a 6-4 lead heading into the last half of the seventh.

Sophomore Neil Hackett closed the door on the Harriers en route to his third win of the season. He improved to 3-1 with a complete game in which he allowed four earned runs on eight hits and struck out four.

Goodpaster finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Ungru went 1-for-4 with two RBI including the game-winning hit. Sophomore Jared Mills finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while juniors Bobby Willis and Jake Mullis each added a hit.

The bats went silent in game two for the Knights. While they scored the game's first run in the top of the second on an error, they tallied just two hits for the game. The Harriers posted two in the third, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth to earn the 5-1 win.

Mullis and freshman Dustin Hileman were the only Knights to garner a hit in the ballgame.
Sophomore Ben Walters took the loss as he allowed four earned runs over five-and-two-thirds innings to fall to 1-2 on the campaign.

The Knights get back into conference play when they head to Marion, Ind., to take on Indiana Wesleyan University on Thursday afternoon. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 4 p.m.
