INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University baseball team picked up its fourth weekly honor of the season as junior
Todd Ungru was named Mid-Central College Conference Player of the Week for the week ending April 25, the league office announced on Monday.
Ungru helped lead the Knights to a 3-1 record on the week as the Knights took three-of-four against the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) last week to bring their record to 21-21 on the season and 13-9 in conference play.
The left-handed hitting first baseman batted .417 (5-for-12) on the week and drove in five runs while scoring three times himself. On Thursday, in the doubleheader sweep of the Cougars, Ungru went 1-for-4 with an RBI and two walks, but truly came alive in the back end of the four-game season series. Ungru went 4-for-8 on Saturday with a homerun and four RBI. He also had a double in game two on Saturday for the Knights.
He is batting .351 on the season with 40 hits, 10 doubles, on triple and is the first Knight to hit double-digit homeruns (10) since Dave Scott hit 14 bombs in 2004.
This is Ungru's second MCC Player of the Week award and it is the fourth time this season a Marian player has been honored.
The Knights play host to Grace College on Saturday on Senior Day at the Marian University Baseball Field. It is Dog Day at the Ballpark and fans are encouraged to bring their favorite canines to the park as the Knights' seniors get honored during their final home doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. You can Listen LIVE or follow our In-Game Live Blog at
