INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University baseball team earned its first All-Mid-Central College Conference team selection since the 2006-07 season as four Knights were honored, the league office announced on Friday.

Junior transfer Austin Gibson picked up the team's first All-Conference selection since Bryston Bangel earned the nod in the 2006-07 season. Gibson, a catcher, had a tremendous season at the plate, but moreso behind the plate. While he was sixth on the team in batting with a .320 average, Gibson was known throughout the conference for his ability to throw out would-be basestealers.

He gunned down 17 of 37 baserunners during the season and had five games with two or more baserunners thrown out. He notched three against Butler University on March 16. His best game at the plate came against Indiana Wesleyan when he went a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish. It is his first career honor.

While Gibson was the lone All-Conference selection, he and three others Knights earned MCC Gold Glove Team honors. Sophomore lefthander Neil Hackett was named to the Gold Glove team for the first time. He was perfect in 18 chances during the season and earned a 7-2 record on the hill.

Junior Todd Ungru earned his first career Gold Glove honor after he finished with a .991 fielding percentage at first base. He had 326 total chances and committed just three errors while being a part of 33 double plays. In addition, Ungru led the Knights at the dish with a .391 batting average, 52 hits, 17 doubles, two triples, a team-high 11 homeruns and 50 RBI. He is the first player to hit double figures in homeruns since Dave Scott hit 14 in 2004.

Junior Bobby Willis was the final Knight recognized for his stellar play this season in the field. Willis notched 213 chances including 114 assists and committed seven errors for a .967 fielding percentage this season. He was a part of 19 double plays and had 92 putouts. Willis was also fantastic at the plate. He finished batting .388 with 42 hits and 53 runs scores. He added 17 doubles, three triples, six homeruns and 27 RBI. In addition, he stole a team-high 11 bases and was hit-by-pitch on 26 occasions to bring his two-year total to 54 total hit-by-pitches.

The No. 4-seeded Knights (25-22) head to the MCC Tournament on Saturday afternoon when they take on third-seeded Bethel College at 1 p.m. at Wildcat Field in Marion, Ind. The tourney continues through Saturday and will conclude on Monday and Tuesday with the final rounds of play.
