SILVIS, Ill. - The 2010 Mid-Central College Conference champion Marian University men's golf team closed a successful 2010 campaign with a 25th-place finish at the 2010 NAIA Men's Golf National Championships at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., on Thursday.
After carding a 315 on both of the first two days, the Knights shot a third round 328 to finish in a tie for 25th place as the field was cut to the top 17 teams and top 40 individuals after Thursday's third round.
Sophomore
Sean Jones and freshman
Trey Pfund, the MCC Player of the Year, led the Knights for the 54 holes as both tallied a 237 for the tournament. After carding a first round 83, Jones turned it around over the next 36 holes as he shot a 77 on Wednesday and closed out the tournament with a six-over-par 77 for the second straight day.
Pfund shot the team's low round on day on with a five-over-par 76, but closed with an 81 on Wednesday and an 80 in the third round to match Jones for the team's low tournament total.
Freshman
Robbi Koors, an All-Conference pick as a rookie, carded a six-over-par 77 on day one, but struggled to an 84 for the second round. In the third round he came in with an 80 to finish with a 241 for the 54 holes.
Senior
Luke Weber was the team's top scorer on Tuesday as he matched Pfund with a six-over-par 76 and shot a 79 on day one. However, the third round was not so kind as Weber carded a 91 on the final day to finished the 54 holes with a 246.
Sophomore
Preston Smith struggled in the final round as he came in with a 94 to bring his 54-hole total to 258.
The 2010 MCC Coach of the Year
John Shelton has nothing but a bright future to look to as the starting lineup for the MCC champions was comprised of two sophomores and two freshman in the top four spots. Coach Shelton did not expect the result he received this season, but is looking forward to the next two years and beyond.
The MCC title was the team's 11th overall and the Coach of the Year award was Shelton's 10th. Pfund was the eighth Knight to pick up medalist honors at the MCC Tournament.
