INDIANAPOLIS - The 2010 Mid-Central College Conference champion Marian University men's golf team had one of its players honored as an NAIA All-American, the national office announced on Monday.
Freshman
Trey Pfund, the 2010 MCC Player of the Year, was named an NAIA All-America third team member after an outstanding rookie campaign that culminated with him leading the Knights to their 11th NAIA Men's Golf National Championship appearance.
Pfund tied the Marian University 54-hole round record of 212 as he shot a four-under-par 68 and even-par 72 on two occasions to tie the record set by Stephen Ford in 2006. He became the fifth NAIA All-American for the Knights men's golf program and is the eighth Knight to earn the MCC Tournament medalist honors.
He finished with a 74.9 stroke average over 24 rounds in the number one position for the Knights.
The Knights men's golf program won its 11th MCC championship and earned its 11th berth at the NAIA national tournament this season. Head coach
John Shelton was also named MCC Coach of the Year for the 10th time in his 20-year career.
