INDIANAPOLIS - Marian University junior second baseman Jessica Slayton, a member of the 2010 Mid-Central College Conference champion softball team, was named an NAIA All-America honorable mention, the national office announced on Wednesday.

Slayton, who was named All-MCC for the third straight season, picked up her first national honor after another stellar season with the Knights. As a leadoff hitter, Slayton finished second on the team after she batted .430 with a single-season school record 74 hits in 172 at-bats.

She also scored a school record 53 runs, had a team-high 13 doubles during the season and finished with a .456 on-base percentage and 24 runs batted in.

The honor is the first of her career as she helped lead the Knights to the greatest season in school history. They finished the season with their second-ever MCC regular season championship, a perfect 16-0 conference record that included a doubleheader sweep of national tournament participant Bethel College, and an all-time best 42-6 overall record.
