INDIANAPOLIS - Marian University senior women's golfer
Angela Gauck, the 2010 NAIA Unaffiliated Conference Player of the Year, was named an NAIA All-American for the third time in her career, the national office announced on Monday.
Gauck, who earned medalist honors at the UAC Tournament, was honored by the national office after another stellar season. She picked up the second-best nationals finish of her career with a fourth-place finish in Rapid City, S.D., last week.
She had an outstanding 2009-10 season. She earned medalist honors in the first four tournaments of the campaign and did it in dominating fashion. She won the four tournaments by an average of four strokes including a school record-setting three-under-par 141 (70-71) at the Butler University Fall Invitational last October.
She won a total of six tournaments, a single-season school record, and led her team to the 2010 UAC Tournament title with 72-hole total of 1305 (328-324-325-328), which is a school record. The 54-hole total of 977 is also a school record. It was the first time in school history that the Knights earned a trip to the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships as a team with Gauck making her fourth successive trip.
As a freshman, Gauck finished third in the nation and earned NAIA All-America honorable mention. She was named an All-American for the first time when she finished ninth in the nation as a sophomore in 2008, and she also earned the honor after a sixth-place finish in 2009. She is the first Knight to earn three NAIA All-America honors and holds most of the single-season and career school records at Marian University.
The Knights finished 14th out of 25 teams with two players in the top 50 in the country, three in the top 75 and five in the top 100 in the nation. The team reset the 18-hole record with its first-ever team victory at the Hanover Invitational and won the second-ever tournament with the UAC Tournament victory to send them to the NAIA tournament.
