WHITING, Ind. - The Marian University women's tennis team opened the 2010-11 campaign with a 9-0 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon at East Central High School in Whiting, Ind.
Freshman
Lauren Paras opened her collegiate career with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles, while freshman
Brittney Horlacher won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman
Kemi Adeyemi earned her first collegiate win with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, while freshman
Olivia Pursell won at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1.
Junior
Maria Berry earned a straight-sets victory at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-0, while junior Alyson O'Conner won at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Paras and Pursell teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, Horlacher and Adeyemi won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, while O'Conner and sophomore
Tiffany Schendel won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
The Knights return home on September 2 when they play host to the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) at 3 p.m. at the Marian University Tennis Courts.
