INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University women's tennis team continued its unbeaten run as the Knights earned an 8-1 win over Spring Arbor University at the Marian University Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights are 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in Mid-Central College Conference play.
MU opened with a sweep of the doubles competition as the three doubles teams remained undefeated in conference play. Freshmen
Lauren Paras and
Olivia Pursell earned an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, while freshmen
Brittney Horlacher and
Kemi Adeyemi won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. Junior Alyson O'Conner and sophomore
Tiffany Schendel teamed for the 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Knights dominated the singles competition as they only lost 13 points between No. 2 and No. 6 singles combined. Paras won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 singles, while Horlacher won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Adeyemi earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4, while Pursell was victorious, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles. Junior
Maria Berry earned the Knights' eighth win with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
The lone defeat for the Knights came in a hard-fought match at No. 1 singles. Senior
Dana Reynolds fell for the first time this season, 2-6, 3-6, to fall to 2-1 on the year.
Senior
Alyssa Richard was also victorious in exhibition play, 6-3, 6-2.
The Knights are at home on Thursday when Huntington University comes to the MU Tennis Courts. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
