INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University women's tennis team continued its hot start to the season as the Knights earned their fifth straight win, 8-1, over Huntington University at the Marian University Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon.
The Knights opened the match with a sweep of the doubles competition to take a quick 4-0 lead. Freshmen
Lauren Paras and
Olivia Pursell earned an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles to move to 5-0 and 3-0 in the Mid-Central College Conference.
Junior Alyson O'Conner and sophomore
Tiffany Schendel also remained unbeaten as they earned a quick 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles by an 8-1 count. The duo is also 5-0 and 4-0 in conference play.
In singles action, the Knights clinched the win with a victory at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Horlacher earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3, while Adeyemi earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4. Both players moved to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the MCC as rookies.
Paras remained undefeated at No. 2 singles as she had a tough matchup. She dropped the first set, 3-6, but earned a 6-3 second set win before winning a super tiebreaker by a 10-1 count. She is also 5-0 on the year and 4-0 in the MCC.
Pursell moved to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the MCC at No. 5 singles as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win, while junior
Maria Berry finished off the 8-1 win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
Senior
Dana Reynolds dropped a tough match at No. 1 singles, 1-6, 1-6, as she still remains tied for the career singles victories school record.
The Knights hit the road to take on Grace College in Winona Lake, Ind., on Saturday. First serve is slated for 11 a.m.
