INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University volleyball team had a pair of its athletes pick up Mid-Central College Conference weekly honors, the league office announced on Monday.

Junior Kelsee Evans earned a pair of awards after leading the Knights to an unbeaten 4-0 week and a six-match winning streak. Evans was named MCC Hitter of the Week as well as MCC Player of the Week after leading the Knights to a pair of three-set sweeps and two thrilling five-set victories.

Evans finished the week with 40 kills in four matches, a hitting percentage of .337 and eight block assists. She tallied seven kills in a three-set sweep of MCC foe Huntington on Wednesday. She led the Knights in a five-set win over Webber International University with 11 kills and four assists and notched a team-high 14 kills in a five-set win over Northwood University (Fla.). She closed out the perfect week with eight kills in a three-set sweep over Montreat College to close the Webber International University Tournament.

Sophomore Holly Wasmund was named MCC Setter of the Week after having one of the best weeks of her season. She helped lead the Knights to a 4-0 week and a six-match winning streak from the setter position.

In Wednesday's match at Huntington, Wasmund notched just 11 assists and had five digs in a three-set sweep. However, in a five-set thriller with Webber International, Wasmund notched 29 assists, eight kills, eight digs, two service aces and two block assists to lead the Knights to victory. In the five-set win over Northwood (Fla.), Wasmund tallied a season-high 46 assists, had four kills, 16 digs, three service aces and two block assists in the thriller. She closed the tournament with 31 assists and 14 digs in a three-set sweep of Montreat to give the Knights the perfect week.

The honors are the first for the Knights in 2010. MU earned honors three times in 2009 with Wasmund being named Setter and Player of the Week early last season.

The Knights will head to Spring Arbor University on Friday night to take on the Cougars in MCC play. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
