RICHMOND, Ind. - The Marian University volleyball team opened the 2011 season on Wednesday night with a three-set defeat, 14-25, 21-25, 14-25, to the 26th-ranked Indiana University-East Red Wolves in Richmond, Ind.
 
The Knights' attack was led by senior Kelsee Evans, junior Ashley Francis and sophomore Morgan Merrill after each tallied six kills in the defeat. Evans notched a team-high .462 hitting percentage, while Merrill finished with a .400 hitting percentage.
 
Sophomores Kacie Kelly and Karli Williamson shared setting duties in the season opener. Kelly notched 13 assists, while Williamson tallied 12 assists.
 
Senior Brittany Miller led the Knights' defense with 10 digs, while Kelly added two block assists.
 
The Knights head to Franklin College for a scrimmage on Saturday at 2 p.m. before heading to the Judson University Tournament in Elgin, Ill., on Sept. 2-3.
