ELGIN, Ill. - The Marian University volleyball team opened the 2011 Judson University Labor Day Tournament with a sweep in its two matches on Friday evening in Elgin, Ill.

The Knights opened with a 25-12, 26-24, 26-24 victory over Missouri Valley College before knocking off host Judson University, 25-20, 25-11, 25-20, to close day one of the tournament. MU improved to 2-1 on the season with the pair of victories.

In the Knights' opening match, senior Kelsee Evans led the Knights' attack with 11 kills, while sophomore Becky Gramer added eight kills.

Sophomores Kacie Kelly and Karli Williamson each had 13 assists, while juniors Jaymee Schambers and Ashley Francis led the defense with 10 digs and four blocks, respectively.

Francis led the Knights' attack in the second match of the night with 12 kills and a .400 attack percentage. She also tallied six digs and had three blocks (one solo, two assists). Seniors Brittany Miller and Evans added six kills each on offense, while Miller led the defense with a team-high 11 digs.

Kelly and Williamson set the offense with 12 and 17 assists, respectively, while sophomore Katie Kaiser added nine digs for the Knights.

The Knights also had eight service aces in the day's final match.

MU will take on Clarke University (Iowa) at 12 p.m. (CST) and close out the tournament in the finale against Grinnell College at 2 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available at the Judson University web site.
