INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian College football team picked up the biggest win in its short history on Saturday, a 28-21 win over No. 25 McKendree, and, as a result, had its quarterback named Mid-States Football Association Mideast League Offensive Player of the Week.

Junior quarterback Matt Rogers (Trafalgar, Indiana/Indian Creek) was named the MSFA Mideast Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career and the first time for an offensive player in Marian College history.

Last week, freshman linebacker Adam Vondersaar (Bainbridge, Indiana/North Putnam) was named MSFA Mideast League Defensive Player of the Week.

Rogers set a pair of school records on Saturday in leading the Knights to the upset victory. He was 13-for-25 with an interception, threw for a school-record 260 yards, and a school-record four touchdowns. His 65-yard touchdown pass to freshman Julian Williams (Richton Park, Illinois/Marian Catholic) was also the longest pass play in Marian College history. The transfer from Georgetown College (Ky.) also ran for 11 yards.

This is Rogers' first such honor and the two award-winners in the last two weeks are the only recipients in Marian College history.

The Knights travel to Valparaiso University on Saturday at Brown Field in Valparaiso, Indiana. The Knights and Crusaders will hook up beginning at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast LIVE on Freedom 95.9 FM (WFDM) with David Pierce (p-b-p) and former consensus All-American Jeff Burris (color) calling all the action. The pre-game show begins at 1:45 p.m.
