INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University volleyball team's 2011 season came to an end on Tuesday night in the opening round of the 2011 Mid-Central College Conference Tournament at the Physical Education Center. The fourth-seeded Knights fell to fifth-seeded Spring Arbor University, 23-25, 15-25, 25-21, 28-30.
 
MU closes the 2011 season with an 18-13 overall record and a 10-8 mark in the MCC, while SAU advances to the semifinals of the tournament on Thursday night with a 17-18 overall record and a 9-9 mark in 2011 conference play.
 
Junior Ashley Francis led the way for the Knights in attack as she led three players with double-figure kills with a match-high 15. Senior Brittany Miller followed with a double-double after she notched 13 kills and had 14 digs. Sophomore Becky Gramer also tallied double figures with 11 kills.
 
Sophomore Kacie Kelly finished with a double-double after she notched a match-high 42 assists and had 11 digs. She also finished with two block assists. Junior Jaymee Schambers led four Knights in double figures in digs with a team-high 19 digs, while sophomore Katie Kaiser also added 11 digs.
 
The Knights notched seven blocks to Spring Arbor's 13 total blocks, including 22 block assists. The stats finished relatively even as both teams finished with 51 kills, but 11 hitting errors in the fourth set cost the Knights the match.
 
Head coach Dan Findley and the Knights finished with 18 wins and it marks the fourth straight season in which MU has had 15 wins or more on the year. It was also the third straight winning season in conference play. Senior Brittney Miller became the all-time digs leader in her final season as well.
