Head coach Todd Bacon and the Knights are ranked No. 23 in NAIA Division II.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Marian University women's basketball team fell two spots in the first edition of the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll of the new year, the national office announced on Monday.
The Knights were ranked No. 21 in the nation heading into the holiday break, but MU went 1-2 last week to fall to No. 23 in the nation after three games in five days. The Knights are 11-4 overall and are 3-3 in the Mid-Central College Conference after last week's contests.
MU defeated Goshen College, 81-72, on the road last Tuesday before suffering a 72-66 home defeat to Taylor University, which is also receiving votes in the latest poll. The Knights finished the week with an 81-72 road defeat to then-No. 10 Bethel College, which is now ranked No. 8 in the country.
MU has four defeats on the season with one to No. 1-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University, No. 10-ranked Bethel College, No. 28 Taylor University and NCAA Division II Saginaw Valley State University.
Indiana Wesleyan remains the unanimous No. 1 team in division II, while Bethel (No. 8), Grace (No. 16) and MU (No. 23) give the MCC four ranked teams, the second-most in NAIA Division II.
The No. 23 Knights will play host to the University of Saint Francis (Ind.), which is receiving votes this week, on Wednesday night at the Physical Education Center. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. The game will be available with live video, audio and statistics at www.muknights.com
