CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - Sophomore Chris Hanson earned the Marian University track and field squad its first NAIA automatic qualifier at the Little Giant Invitational in Crawfordsville, Ind., on Saturday.
Hanson earned the automatic qualifying time in the 800-meter run after he finished in second place with a time of 1:56.56. It is the second straight meet in which he went under two minutes in the event and surpassed his season-best time, set in the first meet, of 1:59.19. It is the second straight season in which Hanson earned an automatic spot at the NAIA Indoor Track National Championships.
Junior Emile Conde turned in a runner-up finish in the triple jump with a leap of 12.61 meters, while junior Clifford Brown turned in a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.16 in the finals. Junior Taylor Maxey finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.30, while sophomore Tyler Cozart and junior Keith Pavlish finished 3-4 in the pole vault with jumps of 4.25 and 4.1 meters, respectively.
On the women's side, sophomore Lauren Borchelt
just missed the NAIA qualifying standard after she ran a 2:20.92 to earn the win in the 800-meter run. Junior Renyae Owsley
finished as the runner-up in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:01.69. It was Owsley's first competition since completing a transfer from Ball State University.
The Knights will head to the Engineer Indoor Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday.
