INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian University women's basketball team had two of its student-athletes honored by the Mid-Central College Conference after their contributions to the 2011-12 season, the league office announced late Sunday night.

Senior Emily Smithson was named the All-MCC second team, while freshman Faith Reece was named to the MCC All-Freshman Team.

Smithson turned in her best season to date both offensively and defensively for head coach Todd Bacon. She finished the regular season as the second-ranked scorer with 10.2 points per game and finished ranked second on the team with 3.1 assists per contest. She started all 27 games, averaged 28 minutes per contest and shot a career-best 40 percent from the field.

She is the all-time career leader in minutes with over 3,000 in her career and ranks seventh on the all-time steals chart with 141. She also ranks third on on the career assists chart with 338 in her four seasons as a Knight.

Last season, Smithson was named All-MCC honorable mention after helping to lead the Knights to their first-ever NAIA national tournament berth and victory.

Freshman Faith Reece was named to the MCC All-Freshman team after a stellar rookie campaign in which she averaged 16 minutes per game in 26 games played. She only averaged 3.8 points per contest, but she averaged 3.3 rebounds per contest, including 3.6 boards per game in MCC play.
