KISSIMMEE, Fla. - After falling one spot in the NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches' Poll released on Tuesday, the No. 25-ranked Marian University women's tennis team took out its frustration with a dominant 9-0 win over Judson University (Ill.) on Tuesday in Kissimmee, Fla.
The ladies set a new mark for single-season wins as the win was their 15th of the season. The previous record of 14 wins was set in 2007-08 when MU went 14-3.
The Knights opened the day with a 3-0 sweep of the doubles competition. Sophomore Olivia Pursell
and freshman Sarah Potter
made history with their 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles to open the match. The duo set a new single-season record for doubles victories with 17 as the tandem improved to 17-6 on the season.
The singles action saw Horlacher earn a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles to improve to 11-7 on the year, while Knust moved to 14-3 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Potter improved to 14-2 on the year with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles, while Paras moved to 13-3 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4. Pursell earned her 16th win of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 before junior Tiffany Schendel
completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
The No. 25 Knights will take on Olivet Nazarene University on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in Kissimmee, Fla.
