KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Marian University women's tennis team moved up two spots in the third edition of the 2012 NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches' Poll, the national office announced on Tuesday.
The Knights, who were ranked 25th a week ago, moved into the No. 23 slot after a 5-4 win over then-No. 23 Webber International University on their spring trip. They are now 18-4 on the season and are 6-2 since the spring season got underway.
The ladies have been ranked in each of the first two polls. They were ranked No. 24 in the first poll of the regular season and moved to No. 25 last week. This is the highest ranking for head coach Cassie Mackell
and the Knights since she took over the job in 2008-09.
Auburn University-Montgomery (Ala.) sits atop the poll, while Fresno Pacific (Calif.) and Embry-Riddle (Fla.) round out the top three.
The No. 23 Knights will play host to 20th-ranked Campbellsville University (Ky.), which is 4-3 on the young season, next Friday at 3 p.m., as part of the Knight Tennis Classic at MU Tennis Courts. Prior to that match, the Knights will take on IUPUI at 9 a.m. at the IUPUI Tennis Center.
