Sophomore Olivia Pursell became the first of two players to tie the single-season singles victories record on Saturday.
INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 23-ranked Marian University women's tennis team recovered from its 4-5 defeat on Friday evening to pick up a 6-3 win over Walsh University on Saturday afternoon at Marian University Tennis Courts.
The Knights are now 19-6 on the season, while Walsh fell to 8-4 in 2011-12.
Pursell became the first to tie the single-season singles wins record at Marian University after she earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles. Pursell is now 19-4 on the campaign and tied the record of 19 set in 2009-10.
Junior Tiffany Schendel
gave MU a 4-1 lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles before Potter became the second MU player to tie the school's single-season mark with her 19th win at No. 3 singles. Potter won her match 6-0, 6-3 to improve to 19-3 on the year and clinch the match.
Knust fell at No. 2 singles, 3-6, 2-6, before Paras won her 16th match of the season at No. 4 singles, 7-6 (7-1), 6-4. Horlacher fell to 14-10 on the season after a 3-6, 6-3, 7-10 decision at No. 1 singles.
The Knights have already set the program's record for wins in a single season, but can earn the program's first 20-win season with a win in one of their final two matches of the season.
MU will play host to Indiana Tech on Wednesday afternoon at the Marian University Tennis Courts. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
